A rare type of post sculpture with openwork design and very well handled and worn surface, weathered bottom where it has been buried.

Such posts were used to tie or secure a horse too,  a hitching post. This example features a wonderful dome like form and open work that resembles much of Dogon architecture, particularly shrines or temples.

Dogon peoples, Mali, West Africa.

The sculpture measures 37.5 inches tall on professional custom mount.

Provenance: Ex. Private New York city collection.
