A tall carved wooden post featuring a stylized anthropomorphic form, incised linear designs and obvious age and weathering.
This post was carved from incredibly dense and heavy mahogany wood, it must have taken generations for the wood to weather as it has. This is very likely a 19th century example, or early 20th century. It could very well be older.
The Bongo peoples of western South Sudan erect large wooden sculptures as commemorative monuments of important members of the community.
This post has been professionally custom mounted to a wooden and measures 57 inches tall x 6 inches wide.
